Speech therapy games for kids

SpeechLP is a speech therapy games app for kids ages 3 to 9. In every game, your child says a target word to keep the game moving, and the app listens and responds right away. The games were developed with certified speech-language pathologists for practice at home or alongside an SLP.

How SpeechLP's speech therapy games work

  1. Pick the target sounds, or let SpeechLP suggest them by age. Your SLP can also assign sounds through SpeechTherapist.app.
  2. Your child picks a game. A picture and word card appears.
  3. Your child says the word. SpeechLP listens and the game responds.
  4. After the game, a practice report shows the words attempted and the app's feedback.

Every game practices single words with pictures, drawn from about 1,460 illustrated words. Sounds cover 24 consonant sounds, including R, S, L, TH, SH, CH and K, plus 49 starting and ending blends such as BL, ST and STR, at the start, middle, or end of a word.

Speech therapy games to play at home without a screen

Short, playful practice works with or without the app. Ask your child's SLP which sounds and words to use, then try one of these. Each one is the off-screen version of a SpeechLP game.

Paper plane runway

Lay five picture cards with your child's target sound along a hallway. Your child says each word before flying a paper plane past it. Count how many words make it to the end of the runway. Pairs with Pilot Penguin.

Sky is falling

Toss a soft ball gently toward your child and say a target word. They say it back before they catch the ball. Swap roles so your child calls the word for you. Pairs with Chicken Little.

Crawl and say

Spread picture cards across the floor. Your child crawls from card to card and says each word before moving on. Older children can say the word in a short phrase, if their SLP suggests it. Pairs with Baby Talk.

Feed the bear

Cut a mouth into a cereal box and draw a bear face on it. Your child says each target word on a picture card, then feeds the card to the bear. Pairs with Beary Hungry.

Flashlight beam

Tape picture cards to a wall in a dim room. Your child shines a flashlight on a card and says the word to beam it up, then collects it. Pairs with Star Catcher.

Bath-time submarine

Stick laminated picture cards to the side of the tub. Your child steers a toy boat to each card and says the word before the boat touches it. Pairs with Perry In Submarine.

Paper-clip fishing

Put a paper clip on each picture card and make a fishing rod from a stick, string, and a magnet. Your child catches a card and says the word to keep it. Pairs with Treasure Fishing.
