Chicken Little: a speech therapy game for kids

Chicken Little is a protection game. A word card falls toward the chicken over about eight seconds, and your child protects Chicken Little by saying the word before it lands. The steady pace suits younger children who need a moment to plan each word.

How to play

How to play Chicken Little

A small chicken on a farm, with word cards falling from the sky.

  1. 1

A picture and word card starts falling toward Chicken Little.

  2. 2

Your child says the word while the card is still in the air.

  3. 3

SpeechLP listens. A word that counts protects the chicken, and the next card starts falling.

  4. 4

The practice report lists each word and the app's feedback.

Optional camera view. Chicken Little can show the front camera, so your child can watch their own mouth while saying each word.

The practice

What your child practices

Chicken Little uses the same target sounds and word list as every SpeechLP game.

  • Sounds 24 sounds + 49 blends

24 consonant sounds, including R, S, L, TH, SH, CH and K, plus 49 starting and ending blends such as BL, ST and STR. Parents choose the targets, SpeechLP can suggest them by age, or an SLP can assign them.

  • Word position Start, middle, end

Practice the sound at the start, middle, or end of a word.

  • Level Single words

Single words with pictures, from about 1,460 illustrated words.

  • Ages 3 to 9

Designed for children ages 3 to 9.

Feedback: SpeechLP listens to each attempt and responds in the game. The practice report afterward lists the words and the app's feedback. It is not a diagnosis or a clinical score.

Keep practicing off screen: Sky is falling

Toss a soft ball gently toward your child and say a target word. They say it back before they catch the ball. Swap roles so your child calls the word for you.
